Malik Shakur is an accomplished author, content creator, and intellectual property business and legal affairs professional with 30 years of experience in entertainment and digital industries. Trained as an intellectual property attorney, Malik has seamlessly combined his legal ability with his business development acumen, creative strategy and marketing ability to drive success across music, digital media, television and film content.

Throughout his diverse career, Malik his worked with major players in the industry, consulting for television executive, production companies at all stages, negotiate deals with AMC, Sony, BMG, Warner Chappell Music, Paramount, VH1, Comedy Central and Urban Box Office (UBO) he has directed and produced commercials for leading brands like Reebok, Ford, Pepsi, Burger King, Captain Morgan Rum, as well as public service announcements for Universal Music Group and HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns.

As a writer and producer of commercials jingles, Malik’s work have been featured in campaigns for major brands such as Gatorade, Downy, Burger King, Carnival Cruise Lines, and Pepsi. My creative journey also led me to theater, where I performed as a principal in a production with La Mama Theatre in Umbria, Italy. He then made his debut as a producer, director, set designer and multimedia designer,  with the one man show entitled My Life In 3 Easy Payments at the Behold Queer Arts Festival. 

My theatrical achievement includes, producing a musical adaptation of E. Lynn Harris’s Invisible Life at the World Famous Apollo Theater in New York City, with music by Ashford & Simpson. Serving as an associate producer, content creator/marketing executive for the 50th Anniversary production of A Soldier’s Play and A Day of Absence produced by the Negro Ensemble Company. These roles and production earned several Audelco Awards. He continued building on his skill sets when premiered his talents on Broadway at the United Solo Theater Festival. 

In addition to his work in theater and film, Malik is an active writer and intellectual voice. His forthcoming novels, Soul Searching and, And They Called Him King, are set to be released in 2025, along side the first of a four part series entitled Words of A Life Lived and his children’s book series titled The Adventures of Hip and Hop set in Harlem featuring fraternal twin Assata and Malik. He is also the author of an eBook titled 6 Degrees of Separation: Healing Generational Racism by Becoming a Better White Person, which explores the impact of racism and solutions for White people moving forward away from racism.

Shakur’s voice extends into the podcasting world, where he produces The Black Tax: Stories of Being Black in Corporate America. This podcast examines the unique challenges faced by Black professionals. He is currently working on season two and in preproduction of two new podcast title Black Coffee White Issues and Generation R&D. Currently he is working on 10 series for pilot season, and in preproduction on a documentary series titles United States of Truth which investigates how Critical Race Theory influences various aspects of life for Black Americans.

His writing has been features in the Huffington Post, Medium, and the City of Los Angeles’ Department of Culture Affairs Calendar and Culture Guides. Shakur continues to innovate as he turns his attention to mobile content, developing apps and multimedia projects through his company iClick2Media.

Mr. Shakur holds a Bachelor of Art in Psychology, a Bachelor of Arts in Black & Puerto Rican Studies, a Master of Art in Industrial Psychology, an MBA, and, Juris Doctorate specializing in intellectual property law.
