Trained, as an intellectual property lawyer, Mr. Shakur has had to divide his talents between the law, business development, the creative process and the marketing/promotion of those intellectual properties in order to achieve the goals he has set for himself.

With a desire to always try something new, Mr. Shakur began his theatre quest with La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club in Umbra Italy. He used those skills when he made his theatrical debut as a producer and directorial of My Life In 3 Easy Payments at the Behold Queer Arts Festival held at the Highways Performance Arts Space in Santa Monica, California The show is based on the book, Dreamboy: My Life as a QVC Host & Other Greatest Hits by Dale Madison. Shakur also produced the 10-city book tour which also included mini-performances.
Malik was able to transform Dale Madison’s brand from a television shopping host into an educational motivational speaker who leaves an impact on young audiences seeking to accept and understand themselves as unique individuals.
In the spring of 2015, Shakur produced a musical adaptation of E. Lynn Harris’s best-selling novel Invisible Life at the World-Famous Apollo Theater in New York City with music and lyrics by Ashford & Simpson.
In October of 2016, Malik made his debut on the Great White Way as director/producer at the United Solo Theater Festival with the reprisal of My Life In 3 Easy Payments.
In the fall of 2017, he became a member of The Negro Ensemble Company as Associate Producer and Principal Understudy the 50th Anniversary of The Negro Ensemble Company presentation of A Soldiers Play by Charles Fuller. This production was the Winner of the 2018 Audelco Award for Best Revival, Best Featured Actor, and Best Costume Design.
Malik Shakur has a keen understanding of creating excitement alongside content, and has curated several events for Belvedere, Star African Rum, DeLaRiva Tequila, and House Music Event Under the iClick2Music Brand.
Mr. Shakur has written several articles for the Huffington Post, Medium, Blavity and is also a published poet for the Department of Cultural Affairs for the City of Los Angeles Culture Guides.
Currently, Mr. Shakur has turned his creative, business & legal focus towards the “second screen” (mobile) with the development of apps and content geared toward the on-the-go audience with his company iClick2Media.
